ScarWork Therapy™

ScarWork Therapy™ is a very gentle, relaxing treatment administered without oils or lotions directly to the scar. Scar tissue is dense and stronger than normal tissue, so it can restrict movement and create discomfort through the tissue and surrounding areas. The adhesions that develop from scar tissue are both at skin level and deeper within the connective tissue. ScarWork Therapy aims to lessen the impact of the scar tissue allowing areas that feel tight or ‘stuck’ to move more easily. I work on any type of scar but predominantly:

  • Abdominal (hysterectomy, caesarian section, prostate, laparoscopic)
  • Breast (lumpectomy, mastectomy, breast reconstruction)

Cancer Rehab

A subject close to my heart, I offer physiotherapy dedicated to helping individuals before, during and after treatment, with a particular interest in breast, gynaecological and prostate cancer surgery or adjunct therapies (chemotherapy/radiotherapy).

Areas I can help with are:

  • Reduced range of movement
  • Cancer related fatigue
  • Decreased muscle strength
  • ScarWork therapy (surgical and radiotherapy)
  • Axillary web cording
  • Decreased fitness levels

Mummy Matters

Pregnancy and childbirth is a joyous occasion with the birth of a cherished one but the process of carrying and birthing a baby can leave some women with pelvic floor and abdominal weakness. Many new mothers report urinary leakage, vaginal discomfort, sexual dysfunction or scar discomfort with many unsure who to turn to for help. As a registered Mummy MOT practitioner, I will carry out a detailed assessment of posture, breathing technique, scar review and abdominal and pelvic floor tone and strength to provide a individualised rehabilitation plan of exercises and lifestyle advice to enable you to restore strength and function.

Areas I can help with are:

  • Postpartum advice and care (0-6wks). This can be carried out in the comfort of your own home.
  • Mummy Top to Toe Review/ The Mummy MOT (6wks plus). This service incorporates postural assessment, breathing control, abdominal separation, scar review and management (C-Section/perineal), pelvic floor assessment, return to exercise, advice and recommendations.
  • Lactation treatment and advice. Conditions treated:
    • Blocked ducts
    • Mastitis
    • Engorgement
    • Cracked nipples
    • Breastfeeding issues
    • Postural advice

Lactation Physiotherapy

While some women take to it naturally, breastfeeding is a learned skill. Although a joyful experience, it often can be problematic. I can help you manage the common issues that can arise during breastfeeding that include:

  • Blocked ducts
  • Mastitis
  • Engorgement
  • Cracked nipples
  • Breastfeeding issues
  • Postural advice

* I work closely with Lactation Consultants to provide a seamless level of care.
